Learning about 'the not so important things': about tickles

Learnt today the usefulness about being tickled. There are 2 kinds of tickle. 1, the subtle one and 2, the forceful one.

And tickle can only happen with foreign objects touching our body, plus only when we aren't alerted.

This idea of being tickled happens from the days of Aristotle and many have asked the questions why but till today, there is no valid scientific explanation on why we laugh when we get tickled.

Now, rodents too also can get tickled! Mice, guinea pigs and rats. The other group of animals would also be the chimps and gorillas.

We naturally laugh when a forceful tickle is executed. However, too much of it will cause irritation.

Now... Why am I learning this and posting it on my blog??
I went on a hangout last weekend.. And i realized how lacking of topics i had for small talks! So I decided it's time to brush up general knowledge and try to relax and not talk about serious stuff all the time..

Lessons in Marriage: the truth

"whatever I say to my wife, must be true. But whatever is true, I need not tell my wife!"

My good friend told me this saying. 5-years of marriage has taught him this about communication. It's a game called life. In an ideal world, the truth sets us free. Its meant to liberate and not being down the trust we have in each other, let alone the way we look at one another.

My only guess, insecurity exists in this imperfect world because we have to live in it. Our desire to improve and win, creates a bi-product in losing and the not-good-enough standard.

No wonder there is no perfect formula to our behavior! In all that we do, there will be-for sure, someone whom we will offend.

Such-is life!

Lesson about God: Precision

Precision in Details, with sense.

Exodus 25, 26
it's pretty amazing to see how God gave exact details to the things he'd like to see it done. I wonder if the people back then would make mistakes, careless or sloppy, in the process of building the things as required. How would they be 'punished' or expected to fix the mistakes?

Having thought all these, if we human beings are created in the image of God, wouldn't it make perfect sense that we are designed to do things with precision. When we like certain food for eg. We'll like it done in a certain way, served a certain manner and presented in a certain way..

The problem in us, is drawing the limit (in being sensical) and the actions we take when realizing that our requirements don't go as planned.

Knowing it's a human problem with a godly design, I realize the need to be precise, as part of the design, yet understand the human limitations in consistency. I have yet to come to terms with laziness though. Is it the bi-product of our productivity and efficiency? Because laziness do have a direct impact with the desire to being precise...

Learning to learn

2011, a new year for me and it's been 3-days after turning 28.

Started to realize that I needed some new good habits to replace the old ones. And there are indeed some habits that I should start cultivating for the benefit of longevity and joyfulness.

Habits are: (not in order of priority)
1. Write down lessons learnt in life
2. Spend time with wife an-hour a day
3. Recording my finances
4. Pray and connect with God
5. Have a 5-10min exercise
6. Read my bible.

God willing.. I need to do these daily!

Learning to NOT FEEL NUMB

Had dinner/supper with 2 good friends of mine. One who brought me to know God, now whacked with life and tired. The other, a business owner, married and a happy father of 2, coming to 3.

I realized that life generally takes a toll on us. We live each day, thinking of a better tomorrow, but the routine of things just never gives us a renewed/recharged or greater ability to do more things. Instead, we feel emptied... day after day... a piece of me is taken away.

Soon, I will realize that I have given my best and there is nothing much I could do to improve the situation. I will fall back on my couch, think about nothing...that's the irony, and give myself excuses to justify my feelings. The feeling of indifference, also known as numbness.

I guess that's how God decided to ignite my passion. Mix me up with younger and people more energetic, pure-hearted and passionate. With their desires to be more cool, more driven to prove a point across, more rebellious, somehow deep within, I sense a fire lighting up. Bit-by-bit, but surely...

On a side note, I learnt something today;

Along the same line as 'life is unfair' and nothing in this world is fair... I realized that to have fun, especially in games, we ought not to play with the rules. Now, I must repeat, only in the name of fun and games.... why? because only when we do not play by the rules that a game becomes more passionate, filled with feelings, and exciting! The sense of danger, adventure and especially uncertainty, are what makes such activities so 'forth-coming'...

Having said that, we never should compromise on integrity in real-life. Therefore, a thought to consider... should living in real-life be compared to 'games'?

Thoughts on Taking Chance

I just finished watching a show I never thought would leave such a deep impact in my thoughts and feelings.

Taking Chance is a movie in dedication to those who passed during the Operation Iraqi Freedom Tour of Duty in 2004.

I learnt a lot about how the deceased were honoured. Somehow, I began to think more about my life in the way I lived my life. The chinese have a saying about 'living to leave a legacy behind', and I sure hope that I could live a life of such.

I like a few quotes during the movie. One that moved me a lot was during a time when the Escort was feeling down about his involvement, it pains him to wonder what he was doing with his life. An old Korean Veteran reminded him the fact he was there, it bears witness. And without witness, 'they' meaning the deceased, just disappears.

Another quote was written by Chance's platoon commander, in his letter to the family, he wrote that the deceased has died a hero, and most importantly, lived his life as a hero. He mentioned that ironically, if this world would be filled with more of such person like him, there wouldn't be a need for a Marine Corps.

I wondered and thought... good man seems to pass really quickly. I guess that's how life is. As good times passes by really quickly, good people passes on real quick too. Ironic isn't it.

Anyway, it's been an unexpectedly heavy evening, I just hope that the lessons I learnt today can help me to be more grateful and to take more honor in the life I lead, especially in fighting battles for others around me. Yes, for freedom-in-Christ!

Learning about boredom

I learnt today that we can be busy but still get bored. The monotonous lifestyle of being busy in Singapore can get me so deluded into thinking that I am living a purposeful life as long as I am busy.

Sadly, I realized that I may have been busy.. all these while, but I am moving into the world of boredom.

Today I felt the pinch while walking to the office. Life seems quite... like my housemate puts it: Boring.
